Scott Crossfield: The Best Stuff

—  Ronnie Joe Shewmake

I wish I could have had the honor of meeting Scott, but I never did. By all accounts he was a pilot who served his country, the top aviator of the 1950s, risked his life flying "X" (experimental jets and the X-15 rocket), a family man, and above all else a true gentleman. Being color blind prevented me from ever having the ability to pilot an airplane but Scott was my hero. I have questions I wish I had the opportunity to ask him (I was born in 1953)regarding his flights and I'm sure he would have answered them. I only have myself to blame.
I'm here to pay homage to Scott Crossfield. From all accounts he was one never to boast and a gentle man. Scott survived many close calls in his flights and I'm now a member of the National Aviation Hall of Fame in Ohio thanks to his daughter who helped me with the location and I'm proud to support the Scott Crossfield Scholarship Award.
Scott had "the best stuff". May God bless him and his family.
